HostMetro Review

HostMetro Review Summary

In an age of heightened cybersecurity needs, HostMetro makes the curious choice of blocking their users from access to basic free SSL use. This, coupled with virtually non-existant chat support (despite claims of 24×7 assistance) seriously damages their credibility in a major way.

Editor’s Review & Recommendation

Founded in 2012, HostMetro is relatively new to the web hosting scene and operates out of the United States. They have chosen to focus their entire business only in the arena of shared web hosting, with the only other ancillary services being the sale of domain names, SSL certificates from GeoTrust, and SiteLock Security Seal.

This makes them a bit of a stretch to swallow for ambitious website owners since those who grow their sites will have to eventually migrate to another hosting company. Still, what it lacks in scalability, HostMetro makes up for in price and features. Offering some of the lowest prices for shared web hosting around, Host Metro takes that a step further with a Price Lock Guarantee.

If you sign on with them at a set price rate, you are supposedly assured of that same pricing for life, even if they raise rates for new customers further down the road. For this flat rate you get many of the benefits that most hosting companies offer as well. This includes the use of a website builder, email, some developer tools, and even eCommerce support.

Despite the low prices though, you might want to give it a miss as HostMetro comes with a few critical drawbacks. One of the issues of using HostMetro is their seeming attempt to force users to buy commercial SSL certificates from them. This is evidenced in their disallowing users access to free SSL. Customer service is also a point of contention, with HostMetro not really living up to their claims.
