Hostens Review

All shared hosting plans on Hostens come with the inclusion of a website builder and even a free domain name. This makes them a convenient one-stop hosting shop for newbies or in fact, even other smaller sites with lower volumes of traffic.

I would say that newbies will need to pay attention to the bandwidth limitation, especially on lower-tier plans. If possible I advise building your site offline and then uploading it to Hostens, simply to save on bandwidth.

For Freelancers & Small Business Owners

The fact that Hostens includes a website builder is good for small business owners since they won’t need to pay to develop a site. Freelancers can also quickly build and deploy with that, so it’s a win in either case here.

Businesses which expect to see a more significant amount of web traffic need to exercise caution though. The limited bandwidth availability could end up killing your reputation if you exceed it without knowing.

For Online Shops

eCommerce stores are supported on Hostens and there are a large number of applications available. Some examples include PrestaShop and CubeCart. You can also opt for WordPress, of course, and use it with an eCommerce plugin.

One drawback is that unlike specialized eCommerce website builders, Hostens doesn’t have any native payment support. You will need to sign up for and integrate one on your own. While this isn’t very difficult to do it does represent a slight added inconvenience.

For Agencies and Developers

Although I consider Hostens as ‘developer friendly’ this does come with a caveat. There are some features like support for Python, Node.js, Ruby, and Git. However, shared hosting plans are mostly limited to just that.

The good news is that their unmanaged VPS hosting plans are just as cheap. Starting from as little as $1.80/mo you can have your own little developer sandbox. Interestingly, Hostens is one of the few hosts I’ve seen who differentiate their VPS environments. It’s important to note that if you need the use of a control panel like Plesk or cPanel, prices shoot up.

You can choose between standard VPS plans or more specialized environments such as for containers or storage. Windows environments are available too – for a more premium price, of course.
