Yahoo! Web Hosting Review

If Yahoo! were Google and offering web hosting plans, paying the fees they charge might make sense for businesses that are hoping to be given preferential search listing treatment. Yet they aren’t and still feel they can hobble basic account holders by – of all things – limiting how many pages the sites can have.

This might have been realistic a decade or two ago but today, when everyone and their brother has a website or blog the restriction is simply ridiculous. I feel that Yahoo! is doing this to focus their customer segment as much as possible and only cater to small businesses (as the name of their service – Yahoo! Small Business – implies).

At the same time, there are no explicit promises by Yahoo! that offer special benefits to small businesses that host with them. There are certainly implications, but nothing that stands out in black and white. The overall feel is that the web hosting arm of Yahoo! is simply a by-product of their core business and they haven’t put much focus into it.

They do have a saving grace in their website building tool which is also mobile-friendly, but this is getting more common in the industry. Dollar to dollar, there are much better options for almost anyone elsewhere with dedicated web hosting providers such as InMotion, A2 Hosting or SiteGround. Aside from small business users, anyone else hardly even gives this host a glace. Bloggers are definitely out unless they spring for Premium plans, as are developers who won’t have any of the tools they need here.
