StableHost Review

Stable Host Review Summary

StableHost has an excellent range of plans that make for good scalability but I would advise anyone considering this host to go through their plan details carefully before opting for one. While at the introductory level the prices are all right, going up the scale brings confusion and contradiction even within their own plans – from shared to VPS.

Editor’s Review & Recommendation

In terms of web hosting companies, StableHost isn’t exactly an industry veteran but it does have a number of years under its belt. Founded by a group of ten just a decade ago, StableHost today remains a privately-held business that has succeeded in growing its product range in a cut-throat environment.

Yet that fact doesn’t make the confusion easier to overcome when looking at the shared hosting plans that are on offer. At the lower end of the spectrum, StableHost charges what seem to be reasonable prices for their introductory plans until you notice that they pack as many as 500 accounts per shared server. While not unheard of, this is a high number – all competing for a shared amount of resources.

The number of accounts per server reduces significantly with the higher plan.

The Platinum plan on their shared hosting list reduces this drastically to 50 accounts per server but the fees scale up like crazy to what I would consider ‘VPS-range’ pricing (see plans and pricing below). I guess that the way different businesses organize their plans would be up to them, but this method of scaling can be difficult for regular users to comprehend.

Personally, I would wonder why pay that kind of price for shared hosting if I could simply move to a VPS hosting elsewhere. In fact, StableHost itself has much cheaper VPS hosting plans which give far more resources that what you’d get on their shared hosting plans. There seems to be a disjointed overlap here that isn’t entirely pleasing.
